Celebrities against cancer – a success in a new blog channel
October 25, 2010
In Kontanten’s & Pink Ribbon’s “Bloggomat“, Swedish celebrities write personal and moving texts about cancer for the benefit of Cancerfonden. Through the creation of a completely new blog channel, Kontanten’s and Pink Ribbon’s ”Bloggomat“ has reached more than 2 million readers. The blog posts have lead to strong reactions and to Kontanten exceeding its fund raising goal of 150 000 SEK for October.

"My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago so I know what cancer can do to a family. It is devastating and the thought of losing someone you love is the worst possible thought there is." Bingo Rimér writes in his blog post in the "Bloggomat".
The blog posts can be seen both on Facebook and in 430 ATMs (Bankomat in Swedish) all across Sweden, hence the name "Bloggomat". The campaign is unique since it is the first time anyone blogs in an ATM. Bingo is number 23 in a row of celebrities, scientists and patients who write about cancer during the month of October, when a new post per day is published.
The goal is to reach new people in an unexpected place and to raise money for the fight against cancer. 1.5 million people can see the campaign through the ATMs only. Together with the bloggers' own blogs, it reaches over 2 million people. Malin Wollin, Amelia Adamo, Patrick Ekwall, Bingo Rimér, Hanna Graaf, Lotta Gray, Caroline af Ugglas, Calle Schulman, Sarah Dawn Finer, Robert Laul and Fredrick Federley among others, have so far written about cancer in the "Bloggomat".
"We have received a lot of positive feedback on this campaign. Many people have seen the "Bloggomat" and expressed their appreciation for the cause. The obvious goal is to raise more money for the fight against cancer", says Ursula Tengelin, Secretary General of Cancerfonden.
The posts are published on Facebook.com/Bloggomaten and on the participants' own blogs and forums. About one hundred of Kontanten's orange coloured ATMs will also be coloured pink during the campaign.
- Thanks to the "Bloggomat", we will exceed our fund raising goal of 150 000 SEK for October. For the full year 2010 we give more than 1.5 million SEK to Cancerfonden, says Patrik Severgårdh, founder of Kontanten. By choosing an orange - or pink - ATM you contribute to the breast cancer research.
Kontanten has more than 430 ATMs all over Sweden. A withdrawal is made every two seconds in the ATMs, meaning that 1.5 million withdrawals are made every month. Kontanten gives 0.1 SEK per withdrawal to Cancerfonden - so the more withdrawals, the more money is raised for the fight against cancer. At present this results in around 1.5 million SEK a year in contribution from Kontanten to Cancerfonden.
